I can confirm that Photoshop 7 can open images from URL's on Windows XP. I went
to an open dialog box and pasted in
http://www.winehq.org/images/winehq_logo_glass_sm.png
and it opened up the image just fine.
Under Kubuntu 8.04 with Wine 1.1.12, I receive the "files can not contain
/:<>|" error.
