I can confirm the problem and the work-around by installing the MS corefonts
manually.

I also agree on the note that WINE should try to render the text message with a
similar font, optimally with the X11 version of the MS corefonts.

It is not some exotic font but likely the most common font family for MS
applications and a proper solution may aid many applications with a similar
problem.
