I have an installed copy of the game, but it also hangs -- in this case when
attempting to start a new game.  This is with 1.1.24

I don't know how to discover where it is hanging, but I'm happy to do any
useful tests.  Running with WINEDEBUG=+all is staggeringly noisy, but when it's
hung it seems to be doing this sequence over and over:
