I also encountered this error, using wine 1.1.18 on Fedora 11. I was able to
proceed with the install by not having the Play Disc mounted when beginning the
installation of the expansion. The installer seems to proceed in a different
order depending on whether the Play Disc is mounted on demand. The file
d2char.mpq is one of the ones replaced by the upgrade; I would speculate that
adding the binkw32.dll file is supposed to happen to the new version.
