Defect a) is gone in wine-1.1.23 on the nVidia Mac OS (with ORM=backbuffer).
The picture is beautiful.  The defect remains on the Intel i915.

b) [horizontal garbage line] is still present on both machines.

I discovered another area where moving the mouse refreshes pixels, on both
machines: one pixel line above and below the horizontal pop-up for the scene
(track?) selection menu, beneath the scene view.
