This is definitely related to the number of comments in the bug. Are we coming
up against some number-of-lines limit somewhere?

I think bug 13335 was meant, which has >170 comments and 53 CCs:

Another (possibly related?) problem is when a bug comment has a paragraph
starting with "From "; the message is cut off in the archives. I guess this due
to sendmail or something.
