I can confirm this still is a problem in wine 1.1.21.
The freezes seem random, and they don't only happen in-game. I just had it
freeze on me while connecting to a server. Keyboard won't respond, only way to
solve is to manually reset computer.

I cannot confirm if this is a problem for other hl1 games, as I have none to
test with.

The freeze happens whether I use OGL, software or D3D rendering.
The last lines of the wine output were :

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e462900 "x11drv_main.c:
X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 0024, blocked by 0009, retrying
(60 sec)
fixme:dbghelp:EnumerateLoadedModulesW64 If this happens, bump the number in mod
err:dbghelp:pe_load_dbg_file Couldn't find .DBG file "COMCTL32.dbg" ("P")
wine: Critical section 7e462900 wait failed at address 0x7bc34c39 (thread
0024), starting debugger...

Sometimes only the first line appears. The addresses given are a bit different,
sometimes the same, in all cases. Same with the thread numbers.

At one point I had music playing in the background when the computer froze, but
the music continued playing til the end of the track. It did not move on to the
next track.

I tried turning off pulseaudio (killall pulseaudio) which seems to have
disabled the audio in-game. No change, the game still froze.
