No such problem here - i.e. works for me in 1.1.29, 1.1.30, current git
(wine-1.1.33-88-gd51b4e1)

1. Did you install the game?

2. Which dlls from windows did you used? Do not use nothing else than
d3dx9_30.dll and d3dx9_36.dll.
