I was having this same issue on Debian sid/experimental since at least the 2.27
time frame. I just installed Fedora 12 and the issue has vanished. F12 is using
the very latest Xorg+Mesa+Intel driver, so it appears it was fixed upstream.

Now, Bnet doesn't work but that's another issue...
