This is correct: IrDA works in Leopard and newer versions with the AppleUSBIrDA
driver. The source code of the driver is available at
http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/AppleUSBIrDA/AppleUSBIrDA-131.2.2/ if
someone who has a Mac is willing to take a look at the issue.
This is a bit off-topic, but a IrDA driver that is compatible with the Polar
USB dongle can be found at http://www.ismarttrain.com/drivers/
