Ok, I tested this.
In Mission 5 of the humans (the timed defense of Hearthglen) I could NOT save
at all, it would crash every time. Now, with the reg-edit I managed to save a
whole 3 times. On the fourth, it crashed. I use wine 1.1.30, btw.
I am going to try and finish the mission anyway to see if my problem that
actually keeps me from playing at all (mission 6 wont start, see my post on the
app-db for WC3 please) has by any chance been solved by the reg. 
I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.
