No, I don't think that is the reason why this isn't working.

I have completely formatted the whole hard disk (after backing-up!) which
removed all configuration and any possible problems that could happen and I
also reinstalled Kubuntu from scratch, and it still fails to load up. At least
this time the splash screen for Rush Hour appeared before it failed to load and
dropped me back to the command prompt.
