OK, this led me to the idea of confirming your guess. So game still crashes
with current git (wine-1.1.32-119-g07c321b), but if i change xorg.conf and
setup 16bit depth for xwindow, then the game does not freeze... Switching back
to 24bit and X restart, game freeze/crashes and following duo comes up in log:
0009:trace:d3d_surface:IWineD3DBaseSurfaceImpl_LockRect
0009:trace:seh:raise_exception code=c0000005
Makes sense to you or are you closer to the solution now?
