Oddly, recompiling wine-1.1.19 nowadays after observing the same assertion
failure in bug #19901, I cannot reproduce some of my own findings of comment
#19.

I wrote:

Now I find that only OSS hardware mode works perfectly in wine-1.1.19 (and the
current 1.1.28).
OSS emulation produces effects like ALSA emulation: they alternate music with
pauses, as mentioned in comment #16.
In summary, what mode works and what not is similar to my observations about
"der Dieb von Burg Schreckenstein" in bug #19901, comment #0.
