You seem to be right. I tried pbuffer and backbuffer OffscreenRenderingMode.

pbuffer did work in Carl's room, black squares disappeared (but console is
still filled with d3d error messages), but when i go outdoors, GTASA crashes.

backbuffer does work normally, but is slower than fbo.

Nvidia Geforce 8800GT, nvidia driver version 185.18.36 (this was also seen with
previous versions of the driver and wine).
