The Fallen Earth MMO (instructions to get a free trial:
http://forums.fallenearth.com/fallenearth/showthread.php?t=35062) also suffers
slowdowns due to this patch, confirmed via regression testing.

The slowdowns appear on all tested nvidia based macbooks (9400m), macbook pro
(8800M/GT, 9600M/GT) and imac (9400, 8800GT).  Observed on OSX 10.5.8 ->
10.6.3.  

Reverting this patch will triple the fps (from ~20 fps -> ~60fps) without
causing any observable graphical problems.

I'd also like to note that ATI based IMacs(4850) and macbooks(1600) don't
exhibit the same slowdown from this patch.

For now we will keep this patch reverted in our builds but I wanted to add this
information here in case it helps anyone else.
