I tried both, but I think I tried the binary distribution first. I'm wondering
if it was not installed properly before I compiled from source (which I did
using macports as per http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ ). 

Can you please advise, if those instructions for compiling via macports are
good?
