I know I don't have any weight in this conversation at all, but I don't agree
with this. fundamentally, if the point of wine is to "run windows apps without
installing windows", then it should be able to do the same things windows can.
if xp/win7/etc can auto-translate usb devices in such a way that older games
can use them seamlessly, then wine should be able to do that too. otherwise you
just end up given credence to the "wine never works, just dual boot" people.
