A little more info:

If I start the wine app first (winecfg, wine Eve, whatever), and then start
another alsa-supported app (mplayer, but not wine), sound works for both of
them.  The problem only happens when another program (including wine) is
producing sound already when wine starts up.

There is also a slight hiss/pop when the wine-app starts up, which sounds the
same as a Mute/Unmute for my speakers.
