Not sure whether I understand you correctly... if this is supposed to mean "(a)
install the application using "msiexec [/i|/a]" instead of "setup.exe" in the
first place and/or (b) extract the files within the .msi and patch those (using
"msiexec /a" and "msiexec /p"), then this has already been tried to no avail:
  (a) didn't change anything w.r.t the registry (v7.0 works, but updates still
don't)  and
  (b) failed (no files were extracted)
In both cases, the respective installation process is the same regardless of
the provided msiexec parameters.
