I tested today with 2 clean installs

KDE4: regression still there
Gnome 2.3: regression still there

In gnome the only difference is that next to the mini screen top left it also
draws the whole thing (just not fullscreen as you can see the taskbar), but
only the mini screen responce to a click just like under KDE 4

added both the kde 4 and gnome desktop screenshot, these are taken after
alt+tab/ctrl+F2 and then clicking on lotro taskbar to get it back fullscreen.
