Why can't you grab terminal output? Do wine Steam.exe &> log and all of the
text that would have gone to the terminal will go to a file called log in the
pwd.

Someone else just reported this in the AppDB comments for TF2 and I have
directed him here. You may want to compare hardware or something, as it seems
that most people haven't been stricken with this.
