In current git (1.2-rc7), I am able to start Civilization 4 Beyond The Sword
and begin a game. Msxml3 and msxml4 had to be installed with winetricks to
avoid this bug : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8107

The original poster should retest.
