I am on Slackware 13.1
I do not know if it works with previous versions of Wine, it's the first time I
install F.E.A.R. on Wine.
However, judging by the AppDB entry[1] at least one more person experienced
such problem, resolving it by manipulating the sound files of the game
(essentially replacing the problematic mp3-s with silent ones). See comment
"Sound related crashing" from Monday April 7th 2008, 7:38 made by rwolf. The
description lacks traces, but the behavior is pretty much the same, except that
he was using cedega.
