I hit this once today in 1.2-rc7. Unfortunately, I had the crash dialog
enabled, and I couldn't dismiss it manually to get a good backtrace.

I tried again now, and instead of a crash, I got:

filling the terminal, and the game slows to a crawl (fractions of a
frame/second), with a black screen (though I can see ammo counts/health/etc.).
