There is a way to play WoW without compiling your own wine version or using a
patch.
I've downloaded and installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable
Package:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/confirmation.aspx?familyId=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displayLang=en&pf=true

After installing login to WoW works fine without installing winetricks (which
got that fixed in package vcrun2005) or using a patch.
