Please, have a look at bug #8854. In comment #31 there is a modified
dinput.dll.so file. Is replacing your existing dinput.dll.so with this file
workarounds your problem? If so, this is essentially a dupe of #8854. It solved
the freezing issue in Morrowind for me.
