Libcanberra is installed for me(it depends on 35 other packages). Besides, only
pulseaudio-gdm-hooks and pulseaudio-libs are installed, they've dependencies on
the system, too. The pulse daemon is not installed and therefore it's not
running. Why do you think it is a pulse related problem?

By the way, re-tested and the demo hangs in the same way in 1.2-rc4.

In 1.2-rc5 the demo crashes right after startup, so if someone want to hunt for
a regression in rc5, here's a good chance (i don't have much time nowadays).
