The crash is still present in Wine-1.1.44.

Workaround(s): 
either running the game in virtual desktop mode (only Wine's fullscreen mode
triggers the crash for me)
or uncheck 'Allow the window manager to decorate the windows' option in
winecfg's graphics tab when running in fullscreen mode.
