You can get uTorrent 1.7(.1) from here:

The bug is still present in wine-1.1.44:

(export WINEPREFIX=~/.winetmp && rm -rf $WINEPREFIX && winetricks win98 && wine
utorrent_1.7.exe ) # The empty space is black.

(export WINEPREFIX=~/.winetmp && rm -rf $WINEPREFIX && winetricks winxp && wine
utorrent_1.7.exe ) # The empty space is white, as it should be.
