I did some more testing, and found that this is related to the threaded
rendering systems found on the steam copies of Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 and
Unreal tournament 3... The temporary fix is to disable the optimized multi-core
rendering methods... 

Tested against: wine-1.2-rc2-51-gbbd93e5

also, as another note, fixing the following error lines will repair the
mult-core rendering techniques...
