I double checked in current git (1.3.7). The game installs overrides, with them
it loads properly on my rig.

Gentoo Linux X64
Nvidia-drivers 260.19.12

I filed bugs for the overrides issues. This can't be considered fixed until the
required functions in d3dx9_36 and msvcp80 are implemented.
