Just tested, with shaders 1.0 and complex shader distance set to the max, I see
this bug in 1.3.4. If I add in 20010235ad07b7be1f68da4c9b36e3ed00d0ca14, it
looks great, though I do get the black artifacts.

I've filed bug 24630 for that though.
