Great! I've been patiently waiting for and app/game which will easily reveal
problems seeing elsewhere and where regression test can be performed. This tiny
app shows actually two regressions. I'm going to hijack this bug report and get
it into a better state so it can be fixed. Thanks Andrew for report!

Let's begin with the easier problem i guess. See attached picture showing the
wrong font and forget about actually being upside down under wine (will be
addressed at another bug report).

1. I did a regression test between 1.1.15 and 1.1.16:

2. There are plenty of bug reports suffering from Huw's commit, see bug 18140,
bug 18497, bug 19467, bug 20707.

3. Revert of this patch after git checkout makes that problem go away.

4. Adding author of this patch to CC.
