I haven't checked this, but it sounds like normal behavior for an app that
needs to more or less probe each drive for it's existence when starting up,
especially if an fd was open on that drive last time the app was run. Wine is
more or less still an app that runs within the OS, and therefore probing at
startup would be a normal occurrence.

Think of Windows' Wordpad. If you have a text file open there, then save and
exit, let the drive go to sleep, then reopen a blank document in Wordpad, it (I
think) will spin up the drive to make sure it can still open the file from the
MRU list under the file menu.
