What are you dragging, the GIF/JPEG/PNG/BMP/other image file, or the image
pixels? What are these "other objects"?

What applications are you dragging from?

Can you please attach a +xdnd trace?

Only files can be dragged and dropped from X11 at the moment, but it shouldn't
be too hard to get XDnD to use the clipboard format conversion code and thus
support everything that can be copied and pasted.
