OK, I just tried using native wininet, and it didn't change anything for the
better - I get a crash dialog telling me that the app needs to close when
opening a book.  Strangely enough, the app keeps working fine beyond that point
(I can still go back to my library).  I don't see the crash dialog when using
the builtin wininet.
