Apparently the crash was Bug 26591 which is now fixed.  This bug is still
present in latest git.  As Nikolay explains here:

"Our implementation doesn't support relative url for this method yet."

Which explains why the Assistant doesn't work, but not really the app hanging
(unless that's a bug in the app itself).
