Sorry - on the surface they seemed related to me, but they are distinct. 

While they both involve log-on to a https site, 

1 - the alipay bug apparently has a problem with cookie processing and hangs
the browser and never shows the site

2 - my bug shows the site but croaks when it tries to process user id and
password, but does not hang the browser and does return the 404 page

I'm new here - trying to follow the suggestion that we not overload the site
with similar problem statements. I take it from your comment that I should post
this as a separate and new bug? I'll wait a day for a reaction and if I don't
get one I'll post this as a new bug.
