Suddenly I have found something that can be considered as a solution. 
I have tried to launch EVE in the separate X session... It worked good. 
Then I have tried to use TWM to switch from EVE to EFT. And there were no
crashes! Then I have installed the XFCE session for my ubuntu and there are no
crashes too in it! I can switch back and forward through different apps and
then back to EVE.

It seems to be that at least in my case the problem is GNOME specific...
