After a bit of more googling I found a non-playable demo which is in fact only
a demonstration video of game, but the initial startup problem is reproducible
in it (download link added to the URL field).

You need to start the demo like this (provided you installed the demo in the
default directory):
wine typhoon.exe HOVAPPDATA=C:/Program Files/Rage Software/Eurofighter Typhoon
