For me (with applied official patch 1.2 + NoCD from GCW to go around the CD-ROM
check) DX2 works fine except some slowdowns (they randomly repeat and last for
~10 seconds). I own a legal retail copy from gamestop, but I dislike to always
insert a CD before I can play games... :/

Anyway. This crash on main menu is now (separate WINEPREFIX, only gecko
installed, all built-in DLLs) gone for me for several game version. Or is it
still there for you? Can you try to re-install the game on a different prefix?
