removing pulse audio becomes a bigger pain with every new release of any distro
that is using it.

It is getting more tightly integrated into most popular distros with every
release.

On suse I've already had a native linux app (mumble) crashing on me when I
turned off pulse audio (yes i did configure it again for alsa in stead of
pulse). This is very annoying since now i have to choose between playing eve
with sound and no mumble and eve with no sound and being able to communicate
with my fleet/corp during opps.

So I personally consider simply de-installing/disabling pulse a solution with a
lot of negative side effects which I prefer to avoid.
