I tried again on a new prefix, and got the launcher working. 

I have installed wine-gecko-1.2.0-beta1, ie68 (with winetricks-alpha) and
flash. Now the Launcher works, although it is not yet as it should be: the
flash-object is moved a bit to the left, and because of that I can't access the
Options menu.

I can, however, login and download updates.

It looks to me at the moment that the installation of IE8 sort-of solved the
issue (as in: the Launcher works, but not perfect).

I have also tried the hack from comment 5, but that did not seem to make any
difference.
