I was wrong. It does help, just not on the menu screen. Ingame, it gets rid of
a regular freeze which fires this fixme every second or so:

fixme:quartz:ACMWrapper_SetMediaType acmStreamOpen returned 512

You also might need to tab out of the game and tab back in to get sound working
with that...
