To reproduce, you need 
  winetricks dotnet20 mfc42
and before wine-1.3.9, you may also need
  winetricks msxml6

Easiest way to reproduce is
  winetricks-alpha -q vc2005trial
which will handle those prerequisites for you.

(Plain old winetricks also has a vc2005trial verb, but it seems more broken.)
