fixes the WideCharToMultiByte issue.


Confirming the other issue,
    devType = str_dup_upper(devType);
is not freed in error paths.


I'm surprised that you did not mention the following excerpt of your log. IIRC
I mentioned somewhere last year that MMIO looses its 8KB buffer every time
mmioOpen fails, such as in
    open no-such-file-exists.wav
