Indeed, it helped. After adding the option

"DynamicTwinView"     "False"

to /etc/xorg.conf

the launcher accepted all selected resolutions in fullscreen mode. I overlooked
that Nvidia driver option although it helped to resolve bug #23399, too.
The downside of disabling Dynamic Twinview is that screen resolution cannot be
changed through the Nvidia Control Panel.

Let's mark this INVALID then...
