It's a regression. There's a message box hidden behind that screen, saying:

Flight Simulator is not working with your video card.

Verify that you have the latest drivers installed for your video card.

Flight Simulator will now exit.
================

regression testing shows 5ae57265c59a35931cf055876ec44e87ab11dcfd is to blame.
