I found the same commit bisecting regression with Painkiller. The game works
fine on Wine 1.3.18, but on 1.3.19 the screen goes black, and at first sight it
seems the only way to recover is to restart X server. Fortunately, on closer
inspection the black screen effect is caused by gamma being set to 0, so
something like this from the text mode makes everything visible again:

DISPLAY=:0 xgamma -gamma 1.0

I don't know if this will help with Simcity (I don't have this game), but it's
worth a try.
